How We Started

A Project of AJ Epstein and his production company, The Ethereal Mutt, West of Lenin is an 72 seat black box theatre and studio space located literally a 5 minute walk west of the Lenin statue in Fremont. Founded in 2011, West of Lenin was created to offer a venue for Seattle's most interesting and adventurous artists, as well as the re-establishment of a permanent, live performance venue in Fremont. Since opening our doors, West of Lenin has housed many talents, both locally and from across the country within all genres of performance and visual art.

What We've Got

We strive to supply our renting artists with a secure and professional environment in which to present their pieces. There are three versatile and open spaces available for rental at West of Lenin: Our Blackbox Theatre, Rehearsal/Small Performance Studio, and Visual Gallery. For more information about the technical specifics and general uses of the spaces, please visit our Venue Info section above.

Who We Work With

Since opening our doors in 2011, West of Lenin has been the choice of many theater and performance art companies looking for a place to house their projects. We work with our renters to create a professional and versatile experience which best suits their art. Previous renters include: Macha Theatre Works, Jet City Improv, Porkfilled Productions, Sandbox Radio, Book-It Reperatory Theatre, New Century Theatre Company, Pocket Theatre, Theatre 22, SIS Productions, MAP Theatre, Live Girls! Theatre and many more. West of Lenin sets out to create long lasting relationships with the local theater community, providing a link to live theater in the Fremont area.

In the neighborhood: West of Lenin is proud to be a part of the local business community in Fremont, and as such is pleased to promote our list of Community Partners. We work with local restaurants around the Fremont area to promote community support and to bring the best deals to you, our patrons! In our Gallery space you will find our community partner cards, which we supply to offer special promotions and deals to our guests visiting the theater. We love our community partners, and we think you will, too! To find out more about them and to get a glimpse at the special promotions they offer, please see our Community Partner section above.

How We Roll

While our space is predominantly used as a rental venue, we also mount between two and four shows a year via our own production and creative teams. We promote our own shows the same way we promote our renter’s pieces, on our website and via our social media pages, and we love to share the news about upcoming performances and events. To find out what’s currently onstage at WofL, see our Tickets page above, or click our Facebook and Twitter icons to see what’s happening on our social media!

Due to our limited staff we do not accept unsolicited script submissions.

Please peruse our website for more information regarding the venue, our shows and events, team info and more. If you have any questions for us, give us a shout! See Contact Us above and give us some feedback or inquire within.
