Hi friends,

With all the uncertainty and increasing fears of censorship in this country, it's crucial to have a collective event like the Ghostlight project that's happening this week around the country.

On January 19, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. in each time zone across the country, members of the theater community will join in a collective, simultaneous action, together creating “light” for challenging times ahead. Inspired by the tradition of leaving a "ghost light" on in a darkened theater, artists and communities will make or renew a pledge to stand for and protect the values of inclusion, participation, and compassion for everyone--regardless of race, class, religion, country of origin, immigration status, (dis)ability, age, gender identity, or sexual orientation.

I'm proud to take part, but also for this opportunity to state that West of Lenin exists for artists. West of Lenin exists for artists of all color, creed and gender. We may not always offer the most diverse programming in Seattle, but you have my promise that it is our mission to tilt and keep tilting the balance towards a more inclusive venue - a platform for this complex and beautiful community that we share here in Seattle.

Love and safety to you all, and I hope to see you soon.

-AJ Epstein

All participants are encouraged to bring a light source: a flashlight, lantern, phone, etc. Please arrive early, as the event will begin promptly at 5:30pm.
